Kinkminos: Maybe they should. But considering that most places here in the capital are named in English, I doubt it would happen. (Of course, there are exceptions like the Daman-e-Koh, or Lok Virsa etc.) As for other trans(mogrified)literations (I liked that, by the way!), I mentioned Daman-e-Koh in the post. There have been some other mistakes as well, most of which have thankfully been corrected.

Anyway, I haven’t updated my “old blog” yet but I do plan to start one in the near future (near being the next year and a half ).

But I guess Blogger’s not an option…the government of Pakistan, in its infinite wisdom, banned it sometime ago, then they allowed, but access goes down from time to time.

Where have you hosted your blog? I’d rather not go through the whole whois/traceroute thing. More importantly, which blogging tool are you using? WordPress? Let me know.

Haha, I did spend some seconds scratching my head when I read “executed”!

Blogs at Blogger are working fine for me now. Guess it was something temporary. But anyone who mentions WordPress and expresses their plans to use it as their blogging tool, receives a wonderful pat on the back from me.

For hosting, I am using services from Nexus. They have an office on Murree Road, between the Rehmanabad and Chandni chowks. This office used to be their head office, but now their Islamabad office (in F-10) has the head-office-status. Do check the maps on their website describing their locations — it’s amusing how they chose to spell “Mezail Chowk”!

Does Nexus provide a shell account? What’s the average uptime? I was initially thinking about Dreamhost, they cost around $100 a year with around 200GB space, and you can register multiple domains with the same account. And ofcourse they support automatic WordPress installation.

Anyway, have you tried running WordPress locally? I mean on your system using LAMP or WAMP? Any pointers? I wanted to setup the template during the year and a half it will take me to decide on a hosting service:P, thought I might as well do it locally.

I use Nexus’s masoom Unix Basic package, which doesn’t provide any shell account. Though ssh is available in their Unix Budget and Advance packages. You can check a listing of these and others at this page.

But if you can manage to get your space at Dreamhost, then surely go for it. They have a much better reputation than Nexus (not to mention their packages), and I might migrate if I am ever able to afford them!

I do have a local WordPress installation on my machine, and I use XAMPP for all my WAMP needs. (Do check it out, it’s nifty; unless you already have Apache configured on your machine.) And there’s a tutorial here about XAMPP and WordPress that I myself used while doing local installation.

And, of course, there’s always the excellent WordPress Codex.

Dude, that sign just made me shake my head for the longest time. WHY could they not have just written it as “9″ and left off the whole “th” business? Seriously, give the Pakistanis some credit; I’m sure we could recognize avenues by the number itself.
