The Day

Sunday, June 8, 2003

Do you know what’s special about today? It’s 8th of June.

Yeah, I know that it’s just another hot day in the scorching summers of Pakistan. But back in 1983, it didn’t use to be that hot… at least in Rawalpindi. My parents tell me that back then, Rawalpindi had its classical, unpredictable weather. Two days of heat, and one day of rain showers. Sounds great. This weather had come back for a few days in the last month. But it didn’t last like it should have been.

Anyway, I didn’t want to discuss weather… they have got that mahkamah-e-mausimiyat to take care of it.

So I was talking about June 8. I ask again, what’s special about this day?

May be it hasn’t got anything special for you. May be it’s special only for me. And if that is the case, then this day gets even more special. A single day, out of 365 other days, is special only for me in the whole world. Wow! That’s super, isn’t it?

So let me tell you what I do on today. Actually, I do nothing… except being happy. It’s one day which keeps me grinning as wide as the space between my ears, and even if it makes me look like an idiot, I don’t stop doing it. After all, it’s June 8, and I was born on this very day!

That’s right! Today’s my birthday! :)
